4 primary schools fill about half their places by end of Phase 1 in 2024’s P1 registration exercise
SINGAPORE – Four primary schools have filled about half their total spots, after the first stage of the 2024 Primary 1 registration exercise ended on July 10.
Phase 1 of the Primary 1 registration, which is for children with older siblings already enrolled in the school, took place from July 2 to 4.
According to figures published on the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) website on July 10, the schools that have filled about 50 per cent of their spots are Fern Green Primary, Naval Base Primary, Oasis Primary and Springdale Primary.
After the same phase in 2023’s exercise, there were five schools that filled half their places.
Topping the list was Naval Base Primary School in Yishun, which has filled about 52 per cent of its total vacancies.
It has 53 places left for Phase 2A, which is for children who have a parent or sibling who is a former pupil, or those who have a parent who is a member of the school advisory or management committee, or is a staff member.
Children from MOE kindergartens under the primary school of their choice also qualify under Phase 2A.
The number of vacancies for each school for the Primary 1 registration exercise is projected to be similar to those of previous years.
MOE announced on its website the number of places left for Phase 2A for 180 primary schools. These figures do not include the 60 reserved places for Phases 2B and 2C, set aside by MOE since 2022 to ensure schools remain accessible to as many children as possible.
Figures for Kranji Primary School were not available, as it is relocating to Tengah tentatively in 2028, and the school will not be admitting pupils to Primary 1 through the registration exercise from 2024 to 2026.
The school will admit its first batch of Primary 1 pupils tentatively only in 2028, via the 2027 Primary 1 registration exercise.
Popular schools Henry Park Primary School and CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School still have vacancies remaining for Phase 2A. Henry Park has 107 spots left out of 300 and CHIJ, 76 out of 210.
Phase 2A starts at 9am on July 11, and ends at 4.30pm on July 12. Results of this phase will be out on July 19.
