Beer lady in Jurong West goes viral, dubbed Singapore's Xi Shi for her looks

A coffee shop in Jurong West has recently become a hotspot of attention, thanks to Tang Xinyi, a 27-year-old Malaysian working there as a beer promoter. Nicknamed "Singapore's Xi Shi" by patrons, a reference to one of ancient China's renowned beauties, Tang's striking appearance has captivated the public's interest.

Tang began working at the coffee shop located at Block 491 Jurong West Avenue 1 just eight months ago. She was initially taken aback by the sudden influx of messages and attention she received. “I was quite surprised at first,” Tang shared in an interview with Shin Min Daily News. “But then I realized it was because someone had shared my photos and posts widely on social media.”

Despite her unexpected fame, Tang admitted she was not mentally prepared for such rapid recognition and had not considered becoming a celebrity. She expressed gratitude for the public’s support but voiced concerns about potentially being overwhelmed by increased demands, especially since she is the only beer promoter at the coffee shop.

The popularity surge has led to a booming business at the coffee shop. On August 23, the establishment was packed, making it difficult for new customers to find a seat. Regular patrons, such as 48-year-old private-hire driver Zhou Wencai, have dubbed Tang “beer Xi Shi,” a playful nod to her newfound fame.

Stallholders Zheng Xiangjie and Zhao Guorong praised Tang for her hard work and positive attitude, noting her proactive approach in ensuring customer satisfaction. They believe her growing popularity will further enhance the business of their coffee shop.

Tang’s sudden rise to fame has even prompted some regulars to avoid the coffee shop temporarily, concerned about the possibility of not securing a table. Nevertheless, the coffee shop’s booming business and Tang's continued dedication to her role seem poised to make a lasting impact.
