Eastern Taiwan rattled by 6.3-magnitude quake, no immediate reports of damage
TAIPEI: A 6.3-magnitude earthquake occurred 34 kilometers off the coast of Hualien, an eastern city in Taiwan, on Friday, August 16, according to the island's weather administration. The quake, which struck at a depth of 9.7 kilometers, caused buildings to shake in the capital city, Taipei.
As of now, there have been no immediate reports of damage. Taiwan, situated near the intersection of two major tectonic plates, frequently experiences seismic activity.
