Girl, 7, dies after accident at Sengkang condominium; van driver arrested
SINGAPORE: A tragic accident at a Sengkang condominium on Thursday morning (Aug 15) claimed the life of a seven-year-old girl. The incident, which occurred at around 6:20 am at 23 Fernvale Lane, the address of The Topiary executive condominium, involved a van.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and police were immediately alerted to the scene. In a message to residents, The Topiary’s management confirmed that an accident had taken place within the estate early that morning. They urged residents to avoid speculating about the incident and to respect the privacy of those affected.
One resident reported seeing a heavy police presence in the compound and observed a woman in distress, though details of the incident only became clear through subsequent news reports.
According to sources, including The New Paper and the Facebook page Singapore roads accidents.com, the young girl was struck by a school bus while on a road inside the condominium. It was reported that she was a Primary 1 student.
The girl was transported to Sengkang General Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The driver of the van, a 67-year-old man, has been arrested on charges of careless driving causing death.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
