KUALA LUMPUR: Lee Zii Jia won the Thailand Open today after beating China's Li Shi Feng 17-21, 21-11, 23-21 in the men's singles final.

It was the world No 6 Zii Jia's second title on the trot after winning the Asian crown in Manila earlier this month.

It was Zii Jia's first win over 22-year Shi Feng, a former Youth Olympic champion. Prior to the Thailand Open, Zii Jia lost once to Shi Feng.

The Kedah-born Zii Jia pocketed US$27,000 (RM119,000) for winning the Thailand Open, while Shi Feng - who came through the qualifying rounds - settled for US$13,680.

Apart from Zii Jia, only two other Malaysians, Yong Hock Kin (2001) and Hafiz Hashim (2005) had won the Thailand Open men's singles crown.

Zii Jia has been unbeatable in Bangkok as he also won all his Thomas Cup matches in the Thai capital recently.
